After another year of hits and highs, we asked some of our writers to take a look back at what rocked their 2019.
Ellie Ward looks back on her 5 favourite songs that have been Little Indie Tracks Of The Week this year.
TALK SHOW - ANKLE DEEP (IN A WARM GLASS OF WATER)
The London four-piece really brought out an infectious, quirky and racing banger with 'Ankle Deep (In A Warm Glass Of Water)’, to follow their earlier debut, ‘Fast & Loud’, and shows the band set to clumb higher next year with their post-punk stamped originality.
PINKISH BLU - SUPERSTAR
The Australian emo-pop band made more infectious delight after 'Capricorn' with this August released single 'Superstar'. Lyrics and delivery were moving and indelible:
"‘cause you’re really feeling like a superstar / and I’m standing on the road with a Christmas card / And if I'm really being honest / I wrote the words I love you / 'cause an old French film from '65 told me to"
ARLISTON - WICKED GAME
East London trio Arliston covering Chris Isaak's original 'Wicked Game' proved a perfect recipe, putting their own dark, but shining, twist on the classic, and Jack Ratcliffe nailed the vocals
AMBER RUN - AFFECTION
Nottingham trio Ambe Run returned with the 'Affection' and... blew us all away. The four and a half minutes of 'Affection' were ones to pull at the heartstrings, and like Pinkish Blu's 'Superstar', the lyrics were emotion primed:
"Affection can be as cruel as it is kind / Lover, won't you give me a sign / Love can be as deaf as it is blind."
AVALANCHE PARTY - REBEL FOREVER
The Yorkshire garage punks released this new single ‘Rebel Forever’ - the closing track of their acclaimed debut album '24 Carat Diamond Trephine’, which followed in November - just before they played several shows over in America, and the raucous flavour of ‘Rebel Forever’ showed they were diversifying, bringing a more commercial side to their earlier heavier sound. It proved a winner.
